Some Like It Hot

Some Like It Hot

Turning up the heat this summer, MGM Studios' is back in cinemas across the UK from 18 July. Featuring an all-star cast led by , and , this motor-mouth prohibition-era farce moves from Chicago to Florida at breakneck pace, swapping guns for gladrags as two musicians go on the run from the mob and shack up with a hard-drinking, hard-playing girl group along the way.

Bursting with one liners, sight gags and slapstick sequences, Some Like It Hot is one of the all-time great screen comedies. Lemmon and Curtis are locked in a dizzying game of comic oneupmanship, Monroe swoons and sizzles in equal measure, and Billy Wilder coaxes and conducts the carnage to a feverish crescendo. Sun, sand and a swinging band - Some Like It Hot is the perfect summer movie.

Joe and Jerry are two down on their luck jazz musicians who find themselves out of a job when the police raid the speakeasy they perform in. Things go from bad to worse when they inadvertently stumble upon a gang war and have to make their escapes after witnessing a mob hit. With no money and nowhere to hide, a gig with Sweet Sue and Society Syncopators seems like the perfect getaway plan: they're in need of a saxophone and a double bass, and Joe and Jerry need to get out of the Chicago cold and evade the mobster heat. There's just one problem: the Syncopators are an all-female band, and Joe and Jerry aren't women - yet.

Armed with some dodgy wigs and wobbly falsettos, Joe and Jerry (now Josephine and Geraldine) manage to join the Syncopators, where they meet Sugar Kane: a hooch-swilling, ukulele-playing knockout with a soft spot for badboy saxophone players. Barely able to believe their good fortune, things start to go off the rails for the pair when they being to attract unwanted attention from lecherous millionaires and some familiar faces show up at their hotel for a gathering of the country's most powerful criminals.

Screening from a new 2K DCP, MGM Studios' Some Like It Hot will receive a UK release on 18 July, opening at BFI Southbank, Irish Film Institute and selected cinemas nationwide.
