Having worked their way to the top of the silent film world, Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Cosmo Brown (Donald O’Connor) finds themselves outdated with the advent of talkies. Studio bosses insist their next production feature synchronised sound, but Don’s egocentric co-star Lina (Jean Hagen) is ill-suited to the new medium. Don and Cosmo hatch a plan to have aspiring actress Kathy (Debbie Reynolds) dub Lina’s role – but Don raises his co-star’s anger further when he begins to fall for Kathy…
