The final statement from one of the 20th century's greatest directors. A haunting, stark and beautiful reflection on the ephemeral nature of reality. Tarkovsky did not know that he was dying until he reached the final stages of the editing process for The Sacrifice. His tragic early death (he was 54) is an inextricable part of a work bound up in the nature of mortality, adding an even sharper edge to it's already staggering emotional intensity.
