Park Circus is proud to announce that two brand new 4K restorations of Columbia classics The Big Heat and His Girl Friday will premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival.
This exciting announcement comes off the back of year-long celebrations of the Columbia Pictures library here at Park Circus, including It Happened One Night (90th anniversary), On The Waterfront (70th anniversary), and more. These beautiful new restorations from the original 35mm negatives will screen as part of will screen as part of the Venice Classics strand and will be available for theatrical screenings from Park Circus thereafter.

His Girl Friday
The film was restored in 4K from the 35mm original nitrate picture negative, along with the 35mm original nitrate soundtrack negative. We scanned the picture at Cineric, Inc., in New York, on their 4K wet gate scanner. Cineric was also responsible for the digital image restoration, where Seth Berkowitz was able to digitally recreate a few missing frames that did not exist in any other picture element. Once the restored files were completed, we worked with Sr. Colourist Sheri Eisenberg at Motion Picture Imaging in Burbank to handle the conforming, colour grading, additional image restoration and DCP creation. The audio was restored from the original 35mm nitrate soundtrack negative at Deluxe Audio Services in Hollywood.
The Big Heat
The film was restored in 4K from the 35mm original picture negative and a 35mm fine grain master positive. 4K scanning of both elements was completed at Cineric, In., in New York, on their 4K wet gate scanner. Cineric was also responsible for the digital image restoration, including digitally recreating missing frames in the negative. At Motion Picture Imaging in Burbank, Sr. Colourist completed the conforming, grading and DCP creation. The audio was restored from the 35mm original sound masters at Deluxe Audio Services in Hollywood.
